bigger v8 swap easy or hard?

I recently got a 1992 camaro 25th anniversary rs its got a decent 305 tbi in it but its a little sluggish. I'm looking for either a 383 or 400 small block to transplant into it! But I'm going from a tbi to a carb I was wondering is it that hard?. I keep hearing I can do it in a weekend but I'd like some better input if possible. What all will I need besides the motor? This is the car I've always wanted and I want to do it right...

Externally, all the SBC engines are the same size.

The reason, aside from find a decent 400 because they are getting harder to find, the stroker 383's became more popular is it is a more stable foundation with better cooling. My suggestion is for you to build a 383 with parts you selected and not a packaged stroker.

Re: bigger v8 swap easy or hard?

Other advantages of a 383 compared to a 400 include the ability to use a block newer than from the 70s:
  • Roller cam setup
  • Altogether superior casting accuracy and machine work tolerances
  • Less accumulated wear and tear (usually)
  • 1-pc rear main seal crank, which allows easier swapping of things like a T-56
Disadvantage of course, is smaller bore.
