305 to late 70's truck 350
OK so I bought a 350 from I believe a late 70's pickup thats been rebuilt. I didnt have a place or tools do the swap so sadly I had to pay someone to do it.
I havent seen the car in several days but he is saying that almost nothing from my old lg4 hooks up. He has ordered several new parts and modified brackets to make everything hook up. Is all that really neccissary?
Some of the things hes said he has done is; re-route radiater with new hoses, re routed fuel lines, boughten heat resistent brake lines, something to adapt heater, new hookup for the temp light, and modified some accessory brackets.
I knew it wouldnt be direct bolt in, but is all this really needed?

It wont be much faster than your 305, but it will make more torque. if htat's all he had to do Im impressed. There's tons of little things that nickel and dime you to death even with straightforward engine swaps like these.

Thats REALLY dissapointing hearing that. I always thought because the motors were so similar itd be real easy swap. Been down for about 3 weeks because of unexpected delays.
And yeah I know the heads are probably crap but the motor was a deal and all i could afford. Seller claimed 20k on full rebuild and vortec heads are next on the list.

the only real functionally different part should have been the flexplate or flywheel due to the different crank flanges, and the rear exhaust manifold bolt hole on the passenger side. i don't know the exact year breaks, but an 80's exhaust manifold will be right in the way of putting an older driver's side dipstick tube into the block.. the temp sender in the head is a different thread, but a $1 brass adapter bushing fixes that .. everything else should have bolted right up. all of your accessories will bolt to the 350, with maybe one bolt on the end of the heads not being used any more due to the heads not being drilled for it.
