Another balancing question....

OK, so I know this topic has been brought up a lot but I'm still a bit cornfused, so here goes.

I've got an '88 Camaro IROC 305 TBI that is smoking bad, most likely fried rings so I decide to go to a 350 TBI out of a 92 Suburban that has a bad head gasket (found water in cylinders 5 and 7). So here is my conundrum, the suburban was running a 700r4 trans, and my Camaro is running an M5. The flexplate out of the suburban looks like it is weighted so does this mean it was an externally balanced crank? The main thing I'm driving at here is can I simply swap the flywheel off of my 305 and still use the harmonic balancer off of the 350 or do I need to also use the balancer off of the 305?

Any help would be appreciated, this is my first engine rebuild.

So long as your '88 305 is the original 1 pce RMS engine that came in the car from the factory
then both the flywheel and balancer will swap on to a 92 1 pce RMS engine.
Both have neutral balance balancers ( truck may be larger ) so you can use which ever is best

Re: Another balancing question....

Thank you very much for the reply vette. That post helped tremendously as I was thinking of it in terms of it being balanced inside of the rms or "external" to the crankcase.
