Swapping motor to 350

Hey everyone, well im wanting to swap out this stock 1986 305 for a 350 motor with a mild cam, roller rockers (1.6 i think), and a holley intake. Now my questions are below lol they might be stupid but do conceren me some.

1. Will a 350 bolt into the same motor mounts and same location as 305?

2. Will my 305s exhuast bolt on 350, it has headman headers with side exit pipe?

3. Should i remove tranny with motor connected then connect to new engine when i re install it, or just leave it in and take just motor out alone?

Thats about it, Oh and the car is a 1986 iroc-z which had a 305 tpi but swaped to carb with eddy intake, etc but it is worn out basicaly.

Re: Swapping motor to 350

Oh and i was thinking bbc 454 swap, but i read about fitment issues or something? So are there any big motors that will fit in it like what size motors should fit it, or would a 350sbc be alot easyier to swap in? Lol I have a feeling i already know the answer aswell though

Re: Swapping motor to 350

Have you tried doing a search? The 305 to 350 swap has been discussed here a million times, and there's absolutely no question related to that swap that hasn't already been answered.

454 swaps, though less common, have also been thoroughly discussed here. Caddy swaps, well, no.

Actually, there has been a Cadillac swap here. Had to cut a hole in the hood for the front-mount distributor.

Well considering i have already looked on here and googled it i take it the questions of mine werent to common, also dont care about all the retards on ***** forums opinions considering their motor is sideways in a car.

So once agin it's a simple question as im not one hundo percent sure but would any sbc 350 motor bolt into my motor mount location, and is it easier to remove motor with tranny still atached the put new motor in with tranny connected so i dont have to rebolt it up whith the tight space there is, or leave it in there and just take out motor.

Re: Swapping motor to 350

I seriously can't believe that you couldn't find an answer to whether a 350 is a bolt-in replacement for a 305. I googled it and got a million answers. Searching here gave me a similar result.

YES, they're physically identical from the outside. Same transmission bolt pattern, same motor mounts, same accessory holes, same exhaust mounts, same intake manifold mounts, etc.

As for installing/removing the motor & trans together or separate, everybody has their opinions. I've done it both ways, and I think pulling them together sucks. I prefer to pull the trans out the bottom, then lift the motor out. It's much easier to keep the motor from smashing into things.

There are some detail issues, depending upon how old the 350 is. As long as the 350 is '86 or newer, though, it won't matter.

Now, swapping a Caddy engine into an S10 - well, we can't really help you much there.

Re: Swapping motor to 350

Like Jim said. A 305 and 350 are identical externally, so YES, your exhaust will bolt up.

No offense, but you should learn a little bit more about what powers your car before you try to swap it out.

Ok for one dont say stupid crap then say no offense, and secondly i know that 305s, 350, and 400s are all almost the same motor but it's called double checking as i have never bought a set of headers so needless to say never cared if they were universal but i figured they were. Also the headers dont power my car maybe yours but not mine i believe it's a micture of stuff like fuel, air, spark anyways I also dont remeber anything being said about how a flex plate off a pre 86 and 86 up isnt the same but a nice guy told me this after i checked what i would need and it's called checking not, not knowing and not knowing **** about your car or motor so take that **** somwhere else. NO OFFENSE

Re: Swapping motor to 350

What about it? Its a 305 sbc in it that has a f'd up head gasket and bottom end. The motor going into it is a 350sbc, which i know alot about but probably wouldnt need to know anything about for me to still be able to swap it out considering a motor swap is not that hard it's just alot of tedious work and time. Just saying i know more then you think, but i cannot do stuff without asking more proffesional people their opinions first because thats the way i am, so just an FYI thats how you get **** done the rite way when your on a budget and its your first time doing something, you have to plan out everything even the stupid stuff you have to double check.

Re: Swapping motor to 350

Ok well this is my last question, so my oil pan off the 86sbc wont work on the 76 motor correct? Because the one on 76 is to deep to fit in camaro, also the stuff that mounts on front of motor like accsesorys wont swap over to he 76 from 86 because the heads have different mounting holes or spots rite? Because this is what i read in some ones posting. i ALSO need a distributor with vacum advance yes?
