305 LG4 engine swap to 305 TPI engine

Hi everybody this is my first post and just wanted to ask what all would be involved in swapping the lg4 engine I have now that doesn't run and swapping it to a 305 TPI engine from a donor car where I can grab whatever I want for $700 the complete engine, mass air sensor, air box, fuel pump, ecm, headers, etc. Everything. So how hard would it be to convert it over by swapping engines.

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: 305 LG4 engine swap to 305 TPI engine

If the TPI engine is also a 1986 camaro, then fuel pump/sending unit in the tank needs to be changed and.......nothing else. Make sure you do grab EVERYTHING. That way if there is something that unexpectedly is different, it won't matter cause you have the right part.

If the TPI is a different year then it depends on what year it is that'll make things different. Which will mostly be connector pin out differences.

You will need to swap all the fuel lines, pump( I would recommend buying a new walbro 255), computer and harness, complete electric fan assembly. If you can get it I would recommend grabbing the entire exhaust from the donor car from headers to the tips. Unless its been changed, the exhaust on your car now is 2 1/4" while the exhaust on a tpi car is 2.75". Otherwise the rest of the tpi swap is no different than any other engine swap with a little more wiring routing to do.

Wow guys thank you for all the info but sounds a little too tedious for me. And my limit of tools and ability

I think I will stay with my engine and just swap the cam heads and exhaust.

Also where would I post to find out info on removing the AIR system

Thanks again for the info and helping me with my decision
