Re: question

A 700R4 has a TV cable that must be adjusted correctly. If that adjustment isn't right, the tranny will burn out faster than you can spit.

Re: question

What 1gary posted is important info for switching to a carb motor. Doesn't matter if its a 305 or 350, carb, TPI or TBI, the TV cable is what controls the shifting on a 700R4. Holley and Edelbrock sell linkage adapters for their own carbs for proper TV cable performance.

The computer controls the torque converter lock up. Without the TPS and other inputs to the ECM it will not control the lock up properly. Basically the ECM is worthless without all the other parts at this point. There are ways to wire a vacuum switch and the transmission to get the lock up working properly without the ECM. There's also kits you can buy from Jegs and Summit for this. Hot Rod guys been doing this for a long time now.

There is one other way but most (including myself) would consider this too much trouble and not worth the time. Once you get the 350 installed you could install a computer controlled carb and ECM from an LG4 car.

Re: question

ive already got my 350 built an everything i just didn't kno how the tranny would work since i thought it was controlled by the computer but now that u tell me the only thing the computer controls in the lock up converter is there a way to still have it lock up? i mean without havin to spend a lot of money?

Re: question

I don't want to hijack this thread but I have a quick relevant question to something I just started thinking about. My engine is an L69, but I used my TBI setup when I did the swap a few years ago. I just googled yesterday the cfm difference between the TBI and the CCC qjet that came with it. I now want to go back to a carb, as I'm sure the spark advance and intake parameters in the ECM aren't getting the full potential from this engine. Would I be better served to delete the computer or get an 84 IROC ECM?

I can't speak to how well these kits work as I made and wired my own without a toggle switch.

In my opinion if you have a good ccc qjet then stick with it and get the proper memcal for the carb.

Re: question

Basically it's like what is posted in here. Fused hot through the brake switch, to the vacuum switch to the trans.

site: http://www.studebaker-info.org/tech/Txudtrans.html

Terminal "A" is pink/blk

My car hasn't been tested yet, I'm still working on the 350 for the swap and for the short time (mileage) I have been without an ECM I have been running without a lockup
