i just picked up a 62 bel-air with a lt1 from a 94 trans am. its not charging the battery. it does not have a alt light in dash or a gauge. could this be my problem?

all the wiring from the trans am was pulled and put in the 62. the car runs good other than the alt.

 

With the engine off, unplug the alt and turn the ign on. You should see around 9v on the single wire

If there is 0v it's not hooked up. Find a 12v ign source and knock down the voltage with a 470ohm resistor

If it's 12v, the excess voltage has burned up the alt. Replace alt and install resistor inline

A light will suffice, but I prefer the resistor as it will long outlast a bulb that's never seen
