Can I Use a 383 in place of a 350 in a 1989 350 TPI ?

I bought a 1989 Iroc with a knocking 350 tpi motor.So I bought a used engine from a local junkyard.They are the only junkyard that offer a warranty on a used engine. The engine(TBI 350) was out of a 1991 chevy truck(Z71).That showed 200000 on odometer or so the paper work states.I planed on using the TPI heads on this engine.The junkyard said that might void the warranty so.I bought it for 425.00 no warranty.I got it to the house and put it on the engine stand and covered it up untill after Christmas.It had a TBI intake and throttle body on it and Distributor too.My oldest son wanted the TBI stuff and heads.He helped me strip them off.My son pointed out the big harmonic balancer (with a cut out) and said it looked like a 400 small block.I looked at the stamp at the back of the block it had a 5.7L on it.The flex plate had a big weight on it also.So we pulled the oil pan and googled the crank cast number... 1970's 400 small block chevy.A 383 chevy!!!!Closer inspection showed a 2 piece rear seal crank in this one piece block.It must have some kind of adapter.The engine is supper clean and you can see .030 on all the pistons.

My question would this engine work in the 350 Iroc without a chip swap or other mods(bigger Radiator or injectors) ? The Iroc has shortie headers and a flowmaster everything else appears oem...

 

Yes it will work but depending on heads and cc what cam is in it u might wanna get a tune for it. But u can easily swap all the stuff from the knocking 350 over to the 383 and it will run the heads from the knocking 350 are direct bolt on just get the cam specs from the 383 if its a computer controlled cam then drop it in transfer all ur stuff turn the key and fire it up

 

The cam is a oem TBI cam

 

Thanks for the info.I think I will try it as it is.Just swap on the TPI heads,check the timing chain and go for it.

I couldn't use the roller.It hit the con rod bolts on a couple of cylinders.I need to buy some aftermarket rods for it.So...I got a good deal on a used 5.7 (complete engine ) from a crashed 87 Iroc.I used it in my Iroc.The 383 Is on a stand waiting the next project.I might have it traded for a 454..
