2.8 to 3.8 swap thoughts
Hello everyone, when i was 16 my dad bought me an 85 camaro with a 2.8. I wasn't very impressed, and just sold it to my cousin. my cousin sold it to my friend, who sold it to another friend, and now I plan to buy it back, 10 years later.
From what i have read, the 3.8 out of my friends boneville ssei will bolt up to the 700r4, and i plan to use a custom motor plate or 2 to mount it in the car. this is going to be a dirt cheap build, and i will have the boneville complete and running as a donor. what should i get off of it as far as electronics are concerned, and can the 700r4 really bolt up to the 3.8? i have also read that i will need to get the RWD oil pump and pan. any feedback is much appreciated.

The 3.8 engine will NOT bolt up to the V6 700r4. The 2.8 tranny has a narrow housing and also the tq converter has different pads and smaller pilot.
Easy swap....3.4 outta a 1993-1995 fbody
The 3.8 swap can be done, it just requires more time and work to make it happen.

a 3.8 fwd engine in a car designed for a RWD 2.8 car sounds like so much work and hassle to make it work that it's making my head hurt just thinking about it

If you're set on the GM 3800 V6, just get the complete drivetrain from a 96-02 Camaro/Firebird that came with the V6.
Or, some pointers to make a FWD supercharged 3800 work in a RWD application:

There's a guy on here (FrankenCamaro) running an Olds FWD 3.8 in his Camaro . Don't know the specifics but once you figure out the tranny the rest is standard swap stuff!
