5 speed

If i would have a car with a 305 with a 5 speed transmission, and i put a 350, probably a LT1 ,could it handle the power? I know the reason GM didn't put 350's in the 5 speeds was because they were worried about the power being too much for the tranny thanks

I've replaced my 305 with a 300horse 350, and I don't plan on keeping the T5 for any longer than I have to. Already scattered it once, with the stock 170hp 305!Even the best T5's are only rated at about 295 ft/lbs.I won't waste my money getting it rebuilt again and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone that drives their car hard at all.I Plan on buying a Tremec TKO in the spring. (rated at 550 ft/lbs!)

i swapped a t-5 into my auto car before i sold it. never had a problem with it.as long as you don't power shift it and you have a good clutch and short throw shifter it will survive behid a mild 350.

The reason they didn't offer then was for emissions, really..

In fact, no 350 second gens with standard transmissions were offered in CA.

Thirdgens had the limitation for all states.

The Tremec TKO is a great tranny, and if you happen to have an extra $1,800 layin' around you could'nt do much better.
