Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
Update: just took a look at the car and when I turn the key on my hazards work, seatbelt light and guages work. I think my dash lights are just bad besides the hazards. Where can I buy replacement bulbs? I tried the wipers and turn signals but my turn signal lever will need replacement - looks like part of it melted. Also with the one power window switch I have I was able to close my passenger side window all the way. I haven't filled the engine with oil nor did I install the dizzy yet so I didn't try cranking it over. When I leave the key in the start position should my purple wire be getting 12+ volts? It was just me so I left the key on and tried testing it with my multimeter and got nothing. At the fuse block I have 12v at the injector fuse, hazards, and fuel pump also my starter enable relay is just over 10v with the key on. My headlights won't work though and I blew the wiper fuse. Any input would be greatly appreciated at this point!

You can't "leave" the switch in "start" position. As soon as you release the key, it should spring back to "run".
IIRC, a heavy gauge yellow wire runs from the ignition switch (steering column), to either the clutch safety switch (manual) or neutral safety switch (auto), where at the plug, it passes on to the heavy gauge purple wire, which runs through C100 to the starter.
The only time the yellow wire is +12v is key in the "start" position.
The only time the purple wire is +12v is key in the "start" position AND the clutch depressed (manual) OR the shifter is in Park or Neutral (auto).
Yea I just figured that out yesterday. lol
So Im thinking its good to go. I just have to fill it with oil, find tdc and stab the dizzy in.
@ mojoe-I see youre up in Golden? Is there much of an fbody scene around there? Ive been in the Springs for a few yrs and I hardly see thirdgens around and if I do theyre usually beat up although I supposed its like that in most places as these cars get even older.
i just noticed the pass key box and the other black box that has a fuse labeled vats. Do I need to remove these or do anything with them for this carb swap? I've already done the bypass for the start enable relay.
While I was messin with the steering column I ended up removing the weird metal piece that you have to press to remove the key. Will it be ok removed?
Original tbi car but it looks like the cable will be too long though I still need to find. Throttle bracket that works with my intake and carb
