2.8l v6 to a 350 swap questions
i have been told parts will be available longer and will be cheaper if i rebuild a 350 in the car rather than rebuild it all with my 2.8
if that is the case what would be the vehicles i can get the parts off of which models and years and what should i make sure i have with it to make installation the smoothest.
if i go to a u-pull place what should i make sure i have attached to the engine when i pull it.
also i like in FL in the maitland aria, and if anyone lives around here where is your favorite yards to get parts?
thank you for any help.
also i tried to read some of the stickies, either i didn't understand them or the information was buried to the point i didn't see it, sorry.

Re: 2.8l v6 to a 350 swap questions
Really depends on what you are wanting.. Carb, or EFI? If EFI, TBI, or TPI?
Auto or stick? 3 or 4 speed auto? 3, 4, 5 or 6 speed manual?
Gen 1 small block V8 or gen II or III LT/LS engine?
SO many options that will work in these cars.
Cheapest and easiest V8 swap would be a gen 1 carb'ed V8.
You can use a V8 from a chevy from 1957 to 2002... The break down on that is car engines up to 1992 and the truck/van/suv gen 1 small blocks up to 2001/2002 (vortec L31 5.7 L, 350)
You would need a V8 trans.. That could be a th-200, th-350, or th-400 3 speed auto, 200 4r or 700r4 4 speed auto... Or T5 or T56 or any of the old saginaw or munice 3 or 4 speed manual trans..
To make this simple lets just go with the 700r4... It can come from a V8 F body, or full size car or truck/van/suv, but if it's from anything other than a third gen F body you will have to swap the tail housing to get the bolt holes for your torque arm mount.
Exhaust... V8 third gen exhaust manifolds and Y pipe or better yet aftermarket headers and Y pipe
If doing the carb'ed 350 swap your front drive acc. has wide options... You can use late 80's early 90's car serpentine belt system or you can use 1968 to 1987 or so common V belt set up from any chevy V8.
If you need smaller parts for your swap, I part I third gens and can ship you smaller items.
If you wanted to make a road trip up to Carrollton, GA (about a 7 hour drive) I have every part for a V8 swap a few times over lol.. Just got in a 350 GM crate engine with around 40K miles on it.
I have exhaust manifolds, Y pipes, headers, cat back systems, got one 700r4 trans but it's non third gen unit and would need the tail housing swapped over., intakes, carbs, dizzy, etc etc, etc

in other words i have a lot to look into. i am a mechanically minded person, but the specifics are what eludes me. i am hoping to try to get a thrashed firebird with the 350 i can swap everything over from, but i fear that will not be as easy to find and might have to take from other cars.
what i am going for is to make this swap with as little fabrication work as possible, nothing special, daily driver. if i can get a little more power by buying a different part for $20 more, i'd go with it, also if i can gain fuel efficiency with a little more money i'd go with that too.
i am not trying to break new ground, and i am not trying to be unique. i need a working car, but any car i find in my price range is with problems, and i realized i'd be better off working on the car i already have. i don't mind doing everything myself.
i have no preference on manual or automatic transmission, though thinking auto would be easier, since my current is auto. i don't think i'd mind the drive, but i wonder cost wise is it better to hit the yard or the gas to go up and buy from you.
also if i don't have to take the engine apart and rebuild it, that would save time and money too...
thanks for the help and any more that follows.

Re: 2.8l v6 to a 350 swap questions
Your welcome man.. If you have any questions just post them or PM me. I will be glad to help out.
The options are almost endless with these cars really, but from what you said I think a simple carb'ed 350 V8 / 700r4 swap would be the best for you. It's easy and cheap.
One of the best bang for the bucks engine wise would be a 1996-2002 truck/van/suv vortec 350.
You can pick them up running with 100K-150K on them for anywhere between $500-1000. Look on craigslist for wrecked/parting out 1996-2002 full size chevy/gmc trucks, vans, SUVs
Roller cam, vortec heads, 255 HP stock.
Buy a summit stage 1 vortec carb'ed intake for like $140
Skip white HEI for $45
600-670 cfm carb
intake gasket set for $60
Pick up a used set of headers for $50-75
With the intake and headers you will have around 275 HP with A LOT of room to grow. Those vortec heads will support 450 HP no prob and will only need minor mods like machine guides down maybe and spring change if/when that time comes
