Rebuilding MC- and bleeding it at the -same- time?

So, looks like the rear seal's leaking (see my message bout the booster).. and I remember what a pain it was to bench-bleed the m/c. I couldn't seem to get all the air out; it took 20 or so times. (And that's aside from all the time I wasted on the first bad rebuild I bought.)

Now, rebuilding it seems straightforward; and I don't expect any corrosion in this bore since the body is aluminum. BUT- Could I help the bench bleeding along? I'm supposed to lube the bore and the new seals with fresh brake fluid.

What if I fill the bore with brake fluid, and then slide the pistons in? I see this as a way to bench-bleed the bore! Is this a good or bad idea? This way, the whole bore would be filled w/fluid, not air.. sure, maybe I'll have some air pockets, but not as much as I would have if I left the bore "empty".

Now, I figure I'll have to put the reservoir on first, and somehow angle the thing in the vise so I can have the resevoirs filled so the bypass valves are covered. This way, as I slide the pistons in (and they push the fluid around), I won't uncover the valves that poke into the reservoirs.

Good idea? Bad idea? Anyone done it? Thanks!

Well, I ordered the m/c rebuild kit. In case anyone needs a part number, here it is for the archives.

Description:J65 (4-wheel disc) 84-89 ("maybe" 82-83?) master cylinder rebuild kit

Brand: Bendix

Part #: 22232

Price: $29.44

I ordered it through a local "real" parts store.

No one has any opinions, eh?

Well, I picked the rebuild kit up on Saturday... it actually comes with a new primary piston- and the piston has the new seals already on it! I didn't expect a whole piston out of the deal. I also got the secondary piston's seals, and something else unexpected- a new snap ring.

The one thing it didn't come with was bushings for the reservoir-to-m/c-body holes. That's alright; my m/c wasn't leaking at that area anyway... I just wonder: If I needed those bushings, where would I get 'em? It might be something to think about if you're going to rebuild your m/c- you might not get those reservoir-to-body grommets.

Anyone have any opinions on the rebuild + bleed idea?
