Re: th700r4

The 2.8 and the v8 have different bolt patterns. You cannot use the original trans.

Re: th700r4

Hi I know that, but is the transmission the same inside, and is th700r4 a good transmission for V8???
Does anybody have the measurement for the bolt pattern of 2,8mpfi? because we need to manyfactor a adapter between the trasmission and new engine.

Re: th700r4

The 700r4 is a great trans for a V8. This was the trans GM used behind most of the V8s in the 80's... The V6 and V8 trans are NOT built the same on the inside. The V6 one is much weaker, has fewer clutches (frictions)...

Here is some info on the diff, that I saved off the net.

The 700R4 was introduced in 1982 and used through 1993. There are 2 different types.
Type 1
* Found behind 2.5L 4 cyl. & 2.8L V6 engines.
* Uses 3 frictions in Reverse Input , 4 frictions in Low/Reverse, 2 overrun frictions, 4 forward frictions and 5 frictions in 3-4.
* Comes with # 554 servo
* 4 cyl. uses .371'' TV boost valve / V6 uses .391''
* Produced in 2 WD and 4 WD style.
* Has a 10'' diameter converter.

Type 2
* Found behind V8 & Diesel engines.
* Uses 4 frictions in Reverse Input , 5 frictions in Low/Reverse, 2 overrun frictions, 5 forward frictions and 6 frictions in 3-4.
* Comes with # 553 servo, except HP uses # 093
* Produced in 2 WD and 4 WD style.
* V8 uses .421'' TV boost valve / HD & Diesel .451'' / HP .471''
* Early uses 27 spline input shaft / Late has 30 spline
* Has 12'' diameter converter.
