305 LG4 to 305 LE9

I have an 87 Firebird with a 305 the motor has a knock in it. I found a guy with an 86 C10 with the LE9 305 still in the truck with 46k miles for very inexpensive, he is going to pull the motor for me as soon I pay him. I am curious how difficult it would be to swap the LE9 into my 87 Firebird. I also have a mild cam that is good in the LG4 I may swap over. I also would like to know if anyone could give me an idea what a shop would charge to swap the LE9 in.

Re: 305 LG4 to 305 LE9

You need to call local shops for pricing. There is a labor guide with the approximate labor time. Most shops go bye this plus fluids .

Re: 305 LG4 to 305 LE9

It's not worth paying $1000 to swap another 305 in place of a 305.

Especially not a flat-tappet one (86) in place of a roller one.

Truth to tell, I don't think it would be the right thing to do even if it was $0.

If your 305 short block has a knock, go get a L05 350 out of a junked Caprice, truck, etc. Very few $$ to buy; the identical price to swap. Bolt your intake manifold and carb to it and drive it.

I would pay $1000 if everyone on this site and others could learn to not reply to threads from January of 2018 by a member that hasn't logged in since March of 2019.

You posted to ask a question of someone that A. Isn't going to see the question, and B. Has clearly already found a solution or scrapped the whole idea.

It matters because it wastes EVERYONE's time - people like myself and Sofa that are here to HELP people and get helped by people. That is WHY it matters to me.

Also people that are just blindly stumbling through life and internet posts annoy me. Lack of specificity annoys me. Lack of attention to detail annoys me. Lots of things annoy me. I have a right to be annoyed by lesser life forms. It's in my contract somewhere.....

Re: 305 LG4 to 305 LE9

a) its a comment,not a question.that's self evident

b) idea: assess things in real time and respond to those you deem important AND necessary

c) being elitist ,cocky, judgemental ,whiny and pretentious causes annoyance to others as well

d) your "handle" is very suitable and mildly self deprecating ,did you come up with it ?

try to relax and focus on the important things ,LIKE QUESTIONS

Re: 305 LG4 to 305 LE9

A. If it was a comment, why did you end it with a question mark?

B. I respond to whatever I like, whenever I like. Which is ALWAYS when it's important to do so. You wasted my time and the valuable time of another much more senior member here that is extremely helpful to me and others. Try not to do that. You might want to follow your own advice on this one. Was it "necessary" to bring up a dead thread with an OP that hasn't been on this forum for 6 months?

C. I am what I am. I have a great deal of knowledge that people here seem to find useful and I value the help from this forum on things outside my realm of experience.

D: I've had that "handle" for a long, long time. In a former life I was a software engineer and big into video games - that was my gaming name back in the LAN party days.... partly because how I play and partly because I'm also former US Army. Now it's just what I'm known by on multiple forums. It really means nothing in the context of this particular forum. I simply use the same handle everywhere for convenience.

Re: 305 LG4 to 305 LE9

its a canadian thing, like ending a statement with ,eh? ITS NOT A QUESTION quote "not something you would want to pay a minimum of $1000 in labor for,is it ?" so,if you replace "is it,with eh" do you see what im saying?

i give up,i still don't know why you even follow a lead knowing it has no bearing on anything and doesn't require your answer, intervention, knowledge opinion or whatever?
its like overhearing someone else's conversation and getting offended by what was said, even though it has not a damned thing to do with you.

im old,2018 seems like RIGHT now to me.6 months plus or minus is still the same damned thing, know what i mean?
i don't sit and count days to when the thread was last answered and i didn't think commenting on something not
requiring any technical advice would matter anyway.

anyway,i heard you and will refrain from commenting on anything unless i consult my day-timer
and make sure the thread is no more than a few days old.good lord.........................
