Fuel pump difference V6 - V8
Hi guys,
I am in the process of rebuilding a 305 TPI and swap out my 3.1 V6 with it this summer.
The TPI is from a late 91 Trans Am, my 3.1 is a late 92 model. Do I have to change the fuel pump? I know they have different part #, but I can find nothing about the difference.
I am asking because I have a 10 bolt posi from a 92 GTA with disc brake laying around which I want to rebuild next winter (diff is shot). My idea was to swap the V6 pump for the correct V8 pump in 2019 when I swap out my non-posi drum brake rear for the posi rear while the rear is out and the gas tank can be easily disassembled. Will I be able to drive around for about a year with my original pump? Anyone here who swapped his V6 and kept his pump without issues?
The 305 TPI will be bone stock except for correct 19lb Bosch fuel injectors from Southbay together with their AFPR.
Thanks!

You can compare part numbers at RockAuto.com but they bolts should be the same high pressure pump.
Re: Fuel pump difference V6 - V8
Why would you want to risk a problem? The axle doesn't have to come out to remove the tank. I would expect you plan to change the exhaust, and it does need to come out to remove the tank. So just change the pump already.

Thanks guys. Part # vary, the difference seems to be that the V6 pump can deliver 15 gallons /h and the V8 pump can deliver 16 gallons /h... I think I will just swap it while I'm at it.
