Really Need some help with a motor swap
I really could use some help with a motor swap. Ive searched everywhere but can't find the answers i need.
I have a beat up old 88 LO3 tbi that i just can't get to run right. I'm thinking there might be a cam or a cyl. issue. I've given up on it and I'm also on a tight budget.
I have what i believe is a 1984 305 HO motor with low miles.
The casting # is 14010201 the engine code is V0223SUF i was told it was pulled from an 84 Monte Carlo SS at 40k when i got it.
Can I put this in an 88 K2500 in place of the LO3 and run it with the TBI?
Will the computer run this motor without having to do chip tuning?
What parts from the LO3 do i need to swap over?
Knock sensor, manifold with Map and TBI, temp sensor, distributor, water pump and alternator etc. anything else?
any info on what i need to make this work will be great Thanks

Run a TBI to carb intake adapter. Better heads and cam on the HO but it may need tuning. It will be a flat tappet cam though so run some oil with a Zinc additive.

Re: Really Need some help with a motor swap
In my case financially I cant do a LO5 swap
I'm kind of stuck with the engine I have. The stock LO3 and this HO 5 liter.
I was hoping the computer would play nice with the cam thats in it. I'm dead broke and just need the truck running dependable to get me to work.
I do have another cam sitting in a box but i'm not sure if that would play any nicer with the computer Its a comp cams extreme energy CL12-231-2
i don't want to chip tune and am not able to either. So i was really hoping i could just switch over the needed LO3 parts to get a good running daily driver.
sounds like these things might not want to play nice with the computer.

But that leaves the trucks heater hose can it be hooked up without too much trouble. It would be cheaper and easier to elongate the center intake holes.

Most likely, 99% of your "can't get it to run right" problems you complain about the TBI, is in the TBI, NOT in the castings. IOW changing the castings won't help. Personally I think it'd be a PHENOMENAL waste of time, in terms of ""fixing" anything. I'd bet money that after changing to the 84 castings, you'll find you're right back to "can't get it to run right".
That said: you'd have to use the TBI accessories, either slot/elongate the intake bolt holes and use the L03 intake OR buy a 4-bbl/TBI adapter that locates the TBI in the same place as stock (warning!!! there's at least ONE out there, from a large reputable company, that DOESN'T), block off the fuel pump hole, use the TBI dist, and run a 85-back 12.8" flex plate. Highly doubtful it would "need" tuning as in won't run without it, but given that even the L03 as-is benefits from it, probably wouldn't hurt.
You can just drill & tap a hole for a CTS somewhere if need be. Hardly a deal-breaker if it comes down to that.
