How do I know which engine I had?

1 of my 1st Camaros I had the Engine was a 305 it was Carbureted but it had Black Valve covers and it had a “Chevy Orange” Block i think I remeber the heads being Orange too it had no AC and it was a lot of Space under the hood the Alternator was on the passenger side but I want to know which exact 305 was it possibly a L69???

If the block was orange it wasn't factory these only came painted black originally. You can look under the console lid at the RPO sticker the engine code will start with an L or the 8th digit in thet VIN will have the engine code.
