Which Intake For Hood Clearance

Hi guys, I'm going to get back to the '88 Trans-Am project after a long delay. I decided to go with a 350 Vortec crate engine with a 4 bbl set-up. After searching around I see hood clearance is a problem, I really want to keep the stock T/A hood. The engine is a 350HP Vortec from ATK (HP32). I see several intakes from Edelbrock and Weiand available, with the Performer RPM being the suggested one. I would go with a standard Performer though if that's what it takes to use the stock hood. So the question is, which intakes would work with a stock hood? Thanks for any info, RonM.

Re: Which Intake For Hood Clearance

I have a 350 Vortec crate engine from Jeg's. I installed a Chinese knock-off Air Gap with an Edelbrock 600cfm carb. It barely fits under my stock Firebird hood with a drop base 14" air cleaner. But it does fit.

I ran the Performer RPM on top a Vortec 350 under a stock Trans Am hood with a drop base air cleaner

Re: Which Intake For Hood Clearance

Thanks for the info. guys. I'm still on the mend after shoulder surgery back in February, but I want to get the car running this year. I'll order a Performer RPM as soon as I put together a list, I need to decide which flex plate to go with (153 or 168 tooth) any suggestions? Thanks again, RonM.

Not sure I didn't run a 2in filter though its been so long ago. 3in will most likely be fine. Good luck on your recovery. Had hip surgery in Sept and it still gives me trouble.

I run a 14"x2" Mr. Gasket drop base from Summit. I don't think the 3" would fit under the hood with my combo.
