The biggest shortdeck BBC is 540 cid.

Correction. I just found a bigger engine. Keeping with the short 9.8" deck height and using a 4.5" bore the Merlin block can go out to 540 CID.

Keith Black makes a 9.8" deck height, 4.5" bore aluminum block that can take a 5" stroke crank. That would make the biggest short deck height block a 636 CID engine.

If you found some way to make a tall deck 10.2" block fit easily, 700+ cubic inches is easy to obtain.

With a "mild" camshaft that would easily make over 500 hp on pump gas.

Kind of an open ended question but what I think you're looking to hear is - big block Chevy.

Damn dude, a blown Big Block, that's awesome. Please tell me that's an aftermarket 5 speed you have and not the original T-5, otherwise you may have become my new hero (if the T-5 is still alive that is).

Tremec TKO 5-speed. Actually, the Tremec has been put aside for a TH400. Some things are just better done with an auto.
