LT1 Swap electrical issues on 1982 firebird

HI, first post on here so let me know if i'm doing it wrong. I am currently swapping an LT1 from 94 into my 82 firebird s/e (2.8L v6) . As far as everything physical/mechanical it has been very straightforward. Even electrical has been very easy until last night. A brief summary of what has been done electrically so far; I sent my engine harness and pcm to current performance wiring in florida and they rewrapped the harness along with a pcm reprogram to eliminate some emmisions things and get rid of VATS. what i was left with was a splice and play engine harness. Wires to splice were check engine light, speedo, tach, starter signal, fuel pump power and brake switch. Last night i finished splicing everything into my old c100 firewall connector from the original car, check engine i spliced into my old choke light on the dash because original dash doesn't have a check engine light. Speedo and tach were left un spliced under dash until i get new gauges. Starter signal wire got splice into my old starter signal wire. I got a new fuel pump inline to supply the new psi required and spliced that to the harness. and finally I checked for continuity from the brake switch to the firewall connector pins to find which one would be right and once it was found I spliced that in aswell. Here comes the fun part, after connecting the red positive wires to the battery power came back inside my car (lamps/dash/radio/etc) however when pressing the button to unlatch my rear hatch, the engine tried starting and the rear wiper buttons turn my choke light on and off (remember that was supposed to be for the new check engine signal). So now i'm stumped because i didn't modify the interior harness except for pulling out old cruise control wiring and every spliced connection was checked for continuity from either the dash connections or physical switches. one thing however i didnt check for because i was 100% sure at the time was correct was the starter wire.

If anyone has any idea on why these weird electrical things might be happening please help.

No I don't believe you have your starter wire messed up. Disconnect your check engine light that is connected to the choke light on dash and I bet your problems will go away. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the choke light originally wired to feed the alternator or something? I know it was never connected to the actual choke on the carburetor. So I bet your backfeeding current/ground through there somehow that would be my bet.

+1

i spliced into my old choke light on the dash because original dash doesn't have a check engine light.

Are you sure about that ?? I don't have the schematics for an 82 Firebird, but I'm thinking that you should have a C/E dash light.

Pretty sure all GM cars from 1981 and up have a Check Engine light...
