Is there a way to take apart the EGR valve to clean it??

Thanks, I was hope to keep this one as it passed the test, push it in as much as I can and then block the vacuum line and see if it holds.
I also want to see if I could open the unit up a little so it could flow more gas.

And might I ask what that is going to do for you? I mean the EGR system only operative at cruise, at WOT and idle it is closed.

I have read adding EGR can help lower chamber temps when running Lean Cruse and if handled correctly might lower pumping loses and also help wit MPG.

I played with lean cruise on my L98 some years ago EGT got pretty high real fast. I guess that was why GM deactivated it in the software. They didn't count on us getting into programming our own. Don't want to go too lean or you could burn valves. I do not know if opening up the EGR valve more would do it. Seems like I remember GM having a cam for the LT4 engine that had a longer duration helping it to self EGR thus completely removing the EGR valve. Maybe that in conjunction with the valve would work. I got dis-interested in the 1st gen engine and started an LS conversion.

From what I have seen, it needs to be set to operate ONLY at light cruse. Thus it is a lean cruse.
When it is correctly part of these PCMs it fades into this lean cruse only under a steady throttle and light load, and fades back out if there is any change like pushing down the throttle to pass of climbing a hill.
I was doing a lot of testing a few years ago on a 2000 Mercury Grand Marques. Had all the test monitors, EGT, A/F ratios, MPGs, GPH, full scanner, ETC. Car gt 30MPG at 65MPG, leaned her to 16.4 and got 35MPG at 65MPH, EGTs did not climb hardly at all. Granted this was a 2000 Ford 4.6 engine, a Chevy may behave different, but I will be adding all of these systems to my new van engine and it is being built specially for low RPMs and MPG.
I hope it all works, adding EGR is reported to help.

A while back I bought an EGR valve and it had a selection of disks. You were supposed to choose the one closest to your original valve. Find one of that type and you can play with it all you want.
