1984 TransAm LG4 engine swap

Hi Guys.
I'm based in the UK and have a very tired 1984 TransAm 305 LG4 (I believe this is the 150 BHP engine)
I have been quoted £3200 to rebuild the existing engine and I really don't think its worth spending that.
I need help and advice on a crate engine.
How straight forward is it, what would you guys recommend engine wise, i'm not after big power, with minimal work to swap over?
As my existing engine components are worn I can't see a possibility of reusing much including the carb.
Thanks

If you aren't worried about huge power then a Goodwrench 350 would be a cheap easy choice. It will still be atleast 50HP over your LG4 so yeah a noticeable difference for sure. If you want a lil more power then go for a Vortec crate engine it wont be too much more and carbed intakes for them are reasonable as you would have to have a Vortec specific intake. A mild cam and headers on a carbed Vortec engine will pretty much double the power of your old LG4.

What dmccain said. Remember when picking out a new engine you'll need one that can run a mechanical fuel pump (unless you want to go about changing the fuel system).

I was also considering the 5.7 TPI engine as I may have an opportunity to acquire one. any pros and cons?

If you can find one you can get a carb intake for it and it would be pretty straightforward. If you are wanting to go TPI then there are wiring harnesses from "PAINLESS" to fit your bill. Good luck.

Wouldn't the existing LG4 parts swap over onto the 350 he may get? From what vehicle is this 350 coming from jomalley1234
