Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
First piece of the puzzle was an 0411 pcm and full oem wire harness and fuse box. Big thanks to a buddy of mine and fellow enthusiast Matt Kuhn for giving me a 1 of deal on it all! Good luck to you on your LS swap in the pickup 😉
Anyone bored? Getting things untangled, or maybe more tangled, not to sure yet.
Let’s just say it took a few hours.

Next step is to get things all labeled up and start removing wires from the pcm connectors making sure to keep the mess at a minimum while remembering patients is a virtue. Take your time, if you let it frustrate you to much it will all become a plate of spaghetti! This is the beginning process I start with while making a stand-alone harness.
I find the pocket screw driver works best when dealing with the pin connectors Don’t forget to label! Slowly separating and labeling trying to keep the chaos to a minimum.

Here are the wiring guides for Making blue/red 0411 stand alone harness for a a typical “LS swap” (if you are using a 4th gen LS1 parts car some of these plugs will stay depemding on what parts you swap over) for example if you use the gas tank or cluster from a 4th gen ls parts car they will be plug and play with the new drivetrain ect.
After getting everything labeled and disconnected I like to wrap each one up and separate them by what I will need and what I won’t need. Then from the ones I will need, I group them based on what they are for. Injectors together coil packs together and high ref, low ref, and grounds for each system together and so on.
Organization is key Car Mail!
Still needs a lot more stripped off but here’s some progress pics of the shell and minor prep. The rest will be done after the car is securely transported to its new location. The rest will be stripped completely at that point so we can get clean slate and a fresh start to build from. I’d rather handle all of that now so it’s It’s ready to be spruced up, re painted, and before any plans of a bay setup arise with clutter still in the way.
I met some really cool guys that opened up a shop local in my hometown. They had a 67 camaro full resto, c4 corvette LS swap, and 56 Chevy big block swap with turbo trans in the shop when I stopped in last. Also I got more mail! Much needed piece arrived. The engine stand!!!!

Well I finally picked up a 5.3 Gen 3 long block with cathedral port aluminum heads (862) last night big thanks to my buddy Kody that’s been supporting the build since I told him the idea, appreciate it brotha. It will be getting dropped off tomorrow so she’s up on all 4s now to get some suspension slapped under her to bring her to her new location. Will be posting updates of full motor tear down. My old thread was deleted so I had to repost all my progress up until this point! Stay tuned for more posts tomorrow 🤙🏻
Got it on a tire for the night till I bring the stand and I could help but to start tearing into it. Looks like the head gaskets we’re blown. Will post more pics when it’s fully apart and on the stand. But it’s 100% able to be saved and rebuilt. I’d say it was worth the money spent. $300 long block, pulled and delivered right to my garage door.
More pictures I forgot to upload from the beginning of the day.
Shout out to my close buddy Dakota helping with the process and letting me use his garage space to tear down the engine!
