serpentine accessory rig for 350
Greeting fellow Third Geners,
I have a 1989 Camaro RS that I have turned into a project car. I have removed the 2.8 V6 and am ready to install a 350 smallblock. (I know, I can hear the groans for not doing an LT1 but I wanted it old school) My issue is the accessories (ac compressor, alternator) stick up too far for the hood to close, the brackets are from a truck where hood clearance was not an issue. Is there any serpentine drives that will work on this application? I have found aftermarket gear for $1400 but I just have t believe that there is a more "pocket friendly" solution out there. I know the current configuration will not work because I have already installed on 350 into it and discovered that the "Newley refurbished" engine that I shelled out $750 for had a blown head gasket and it had been run so long that way before I got it that water had literally carved a canal between the 3 and 5 piston bore.
Any help, advice would be most appreciated.
