Serpentine setup

The 305 im replacing had v belts. Im wanting to swap to serpentine but the brackets i have are from a van or truck. Whatever the 350 came from. Anybody have some decently priced aftermarket setups or would i be better off going to a junkyard and buying a setup there? I removed my air pump and ac compressor. Just need alternator and power steering.

Re: Serpentine setup

I believe the water pump is different rotation too.

Aftermarket is expensive due to show cars needing fancy billet looking pieces.

Once and awhile you can get lucky and get brackets 2nd hand and things for around $100-$200.

Overall I would think you're better off going to the junkyard and pulling them yourself. Remember alternator bolt holes changed depending on the year too, so if you pull the brackets off one car and grab the alternator on a second car make sure it bolts up.

Ebay, you can find some Fbody Serpentine set ups for around $100-$200, that's how I got mine, from a 1988 car.

Re: Serpentine setup

Serpentine is nice if you are running 5 accessories. If it's only WP, ALT and PS, I would just leave the V belts. Especially if you delected the A/C, because with the aluminum brackets, you will nedd to ADD an A/C delete bracket in order for the bracket that you just added to work. And those 2 brackets that you just added will run nothing but a tensioner.

Re: Serpentine setup

So what if it just runs an AC delete pulley and a tensioner? The benefits of the serpentine far outweigh staying with V belts:

Re: Serpentine setup

I had already bought a WP thats reverse rotation but i suppose it would be cheaper to replace the water pump again rather than all new(new to me atleast) serpentine brackets.

Re: Serpentine setup

Stock belt, just routed different. Keep in mind, there's a better routing for more crank belt wrap but I like this way because it interferes less with the SC mounting studs/spacers.
