305 to 350 upgrade
305 to 350 upgrade
So I made this account specifically to ask this...I did check, and I see that every part minus pistons can be used interchangeably. So, backstory...I have a 1986 z28. It has a 305 with 75k miles on it...engine itself runs nice but seals are all gone and it's cooling system and exhaust and...other external items need work. Drivetrain wise I'd like more power. I have a 350 four bolt main block, and the 305 inside the vehicle..
aiming for 350hp eventually. My plan is to get a rebuild kit for the seals and install this kit at the same time https://www.compcams.com/*****-thumpr-235-249-hydraulic-flat-cam-k-kit-for-chevrolet-small-block.html But I'm wondering if it will work with what I already have on my 305+ the 350 block? Or will the 305 parts cause issues with the 350 and this kit? As well as would anyone have an idea on the horsepower? This is just the start of the build...since I'm tearing it apart for the rebuild I might as well do the cam at the same time. Eventually headers, intake, fuel injection system, msi plugs and wires... probably going to keep the 305 heads if they work nicely.
