L86 swap

Will the L86 fit in a 1986 IROC? I understand the intake is taller and the accessories ie a/c sit taller.

The L86 is a gen V and will require all the similar stuff that a gen iv will require. However, I would sesrch for the folks that have done the gen 5 LT1 install, as there are a few differences than a traditional LS swap to deal with. Might be easier and more cost effective in the end to stick with gen 3/4.

Re: L86 swap

Honestly the "Direct Injection" Fuel-Injection System used in the Gen-5 SBCs is a headache!

So much, as GM will be moving away from it; as the combined "Port Injection" + "Direct-Injection" System that was researched, tested, and first implemented by the Corvette Team...
Has been a big success in alleviating issues born of the "Direct Injection" System.

There is a 2016 Corvette 6.2 Gen V engine for sale also, no wiring, ECU or transmission. Would there be an aftermarket wiring and ECU available? I was thinking I'd just run a 700R4. Am I dreaming here? :-)

Use what you have...

The only Gen-V SBC Engines with the newer Fuel System are the LT2 Engines.

So the L86 doesn’t have the crazy injection issues? It’s out of an Escalade so I’m also wondering about hood clearance and the accessory clearance?

What are they asking for that motor? Miles? If it is a deal too good to pass up, you might be inclined to flip it and use the money towards a more straight forward swap. From a swap perspective, there isn't anything profoundly better with that motor than can't be done cheaper with a different LS mill.

It has direct injection but not the new improved version that Vortec mentioned about the LT2. The intake manifold is not like the older truck style units. Its the first of the truck intakes that appear more car like (both the L83 and L86). I am not sure on Gen 5 accessories but you'll likely want to go a different route, using more car friendly alternatives.

No great deal, just low miles (11k). I just don’t wanna open up a can of worms. I found an 05 LS2 in a wrecked corvette. It has 103,000 miles on it so I’d plan on going through it. That should be the most straightforward swap. As I understand it the accessories should fit without a problem?

The LS2 route is much easier IMHO and you have the benefit of the accessories. 100k isn't that big a deal if its been taken care of.

Yes and No. Lots of base C6 drivers were old dudes who cruised. I assume the car got hit, hopefully not in the front.

Re: L86 swap

I would also recommend going with a Gen-III/ Gen-IV SBC Engine instead.
No Direct Fuel Injection System...
More Swap-Parts available/ an easier time making the Swap.
...THM700-R4 will be an option also!

The main benefit of the Gen-V Engines, would be the Cylinder-Head Flow being comparable to an LS7 Head (but with worse Port Velocity).
Unless you are looking to make 700+ HP, normally-aspirated... stay with a Gen-III/ Gen-IV SBC Engine instead.
And if you are trying to make as much HP as you can (N.A.) LS2 or LS3 Heads will support 600+ HP without anything exotic.

And if you are looking for something that makes more HP...
I have LS2 or LS3 variants operating in the 8,500 - 10,000 RPM that make plenty of (N.A.) HP.
The LS7 variants/ Larger non-OE Port Engines really start making some (N.A.) HP.
We can discuss that stuff as you like.
