Has anyone had success recently purchasing a remanufactured Chevy small block?
Hello!
My mechanic and I are looking to do a V8 swap into my '86 Firebird (currently 2.8L V6). We are running into shipping issues with our current prospective engine (they have no idea now when it may be available). I was wondering, before calling around and/or before considering rolling the dice on a motor from a junkyard, if anyone on here had recently had good success in obtaining a remanufactured engine from a company online? I'm in North Florida, if that helps. Thanks very much for any feedback!

Have you tried Summit or Jegs? The list of companies that sell SBC's is endless. Blueprint engines also should have inventory. What is your desired configuration? Your options are endless, but you can narrow your search if you know what you want. Don't discount craigslist or marketplace.

Since you are going from v-6 to v-8. Check out Summit, Jegs, Speedway and get a complete. Your going to need carb, manifold, dist, ect. I got a 383 coming from Blueprint. Should be shipped on 11-5. Like the above said, think its the best and easiest way to get it running.

I recently built a stout AFR-headed 383 from the roller cammed l98 block in my ‘89. But a great, easy combo would be to source a HT383 from GM performance parts. Not remanfactured. All new pieces and comes with a forged crankshaft, powdered metal rods (better than the old “pink” rods), and hypereutectic pistons. Actually marketed for trucks…but add a good dual plane, and a cam and spring swap to something like a GM hot cam kit which would work well with the vortec heads that comes with that engine. Be a fun, strong street car!
