Re: 350 in an 86 firebird?

it has the same exact external dimensions and bolt locations as any other gen 1 chevy small block v8, so it will bolt right in place of a 305 or any other chevy small block v8. The induction system, carb or FI will have to be tuned for the larger engine.

Don't know if this would work. But if you wanted to keep it all Ponco,a 455 would be too kewl.

Re: 350 in an 86 firebird?

I have seen a couple cars with pontiac V8's swaped in. So it has been done but i don't think it's a very popular swap

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: 350 in an 86 firebird?

Besides the engine:

Mounts, bell housing, flywheel, clutch, transmission, exhaust

Don't know "the deal with the emissions" in your state... never lived there... can't help you there unfortunately.

Re: 350 in an 86 firebird?

i didnt notice you had a v6. You need motor mounts, which is no big deal

you will not be able to use anything from your current engine, or trans. You will need everything, including the bellhousing and trans from a v8 car.

you will need the wiring harness as well from a v8 car to do a factory install. If its a basic, non emmisions legal carbed v8, you can make do without.

Re: 350 in an 86 firebird?

i have the trans bell housing clutch and fly wheel from the v8 Camero (same year) so all i need is motor mounts and obviously a new exhaust?
