New motor
New motor
Hi guys,
I'm on a tight budget and my block is shot... got a nice lower end knock that I fear has been going on for quite some time and the block has already been rebuilt twice.
So, I'm looking for something to get out of a bone yard to have rebuilt. What should I look for that would make nice horsepower and that I could throw my Edelbrock performer intake, valve covers, etc. on?
What should I look for to be sure the motor wasn't blown or beat to crap?
TIA

If you're going to rebuild it anyway, just look for a 350 core that they will guarantee to be rebuildable. If you get it apart and the machinist says "can't be rebuilt", take the pieces back and have them give you another one.
As for what to look for: Get a 350. Put aftermarket heads on it that have the same bolt pattern as your manifold. Better performance, and probably cheaper than rebuilding factory heads (so they perform as well, anyway).
