Where is the idiot light/ alt exciter wire?

Carbed 454 swap (no ecu if that affects this). Looking to wire up the alternator, I presume the alternator plug is part of the now removed engine harness. Do I have a place to tap into that wiring elsewhere? Is this even the right way to go about it or should I forget about the idiot light and wire it more directly?
