Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
I recently got my Uncle's 1984 Camaro Z/28 with the L69. It has been sitting in a shed for for as long as I have been alive because the engine locked up 20 years ago. My uncle tried fixing it but he neither had the time or the money to get it fixed, so he sold it to me for a $1. I am about 4 months into the project and I have gotten myself a L31-R off Marketplace. From what I have read, all of my accessories should bolt up. I have A/C, Alternator, and Power steering. Here is the deal, I have the accessories from the L31. I would like to use serpentine instead of the v-belt. Is it possible to swap the 84' A/C Compressor to the L31 A/C Compressor? I got some pictures of what they look like. I'd say they would swap because the connectors look the same. I have the brackets for both. I appreciate the advice! This is the compressor from the L31 This is the back of the compressor of the 84'

They will function in a similar fashion. You will just have to have lines made to accommodate the different length and angle of attachment. Make sure you replace the orifice tube and accumulator, and if youre doing a conversion to r134 at the same time, make sure you flush the evaporator and condenser well with a good AC flush product and use ester oil as a lubricant.

I have the vortec accessory setup on the 87 G20 I am working on to replace the R4. Hood clearence might be an issue. Compressor sits tall over the driverside valve cover.
