305 TPI to 383 TPI
305 TPI to 383 TPI
OK... I have a 305 TPI in my Z28 I would like more power. So I thought there might be a way to build a 383 shortblock and install my TPI. I know there has to be some modifications. to the fuel injection system. Do you think the stock unit could handle it. And if so who could tell me everything that needs to be done. Help.. I would like to have it with a new engine by summer.
You will need larger injectors for sure. Using your stock components depends on how the shortblock was built as well. Aftermarket systems will definately be better. I currently am using mostly stock components. Stock base ported, SLP runners, Stock ported plenum, and a 52mm tb. I did the porting myself and am just using it to get by until I get the $$ for a superram or miniram system. Another debate on these boards is the knock sensor. My 305 had 140k miles so I just changed all of my sensors when I did the swap. A custom burnt chip would help make it all work better than a generic chip.

Wow sounds like our cars are alot alike GTA 383 what are your mods and what color and year. You dont live to far from here either. Hmm. How hard was it for you to tune it after the swap.
Mine is a 91, black on black. The only mods so far are the ones I mentioned in the previous post and headers, 3" cat back and K&N filter. Havent completely tuned it yet. Got the engine started a while back then the fuel pump went out. I just got a new walbro pump but haven't installed yet. How far are you?

The debate has been whether or not you can use the knock sensor from a 305 engine on a 350. The 305 sensor will bolt in, the question is concerning the sensitivity of the sensors. Some people say that they have used the 305 sensor without problems and others haven't. The 305 sensor is supposedly more sensitive than a 350 one and when put on a 350 may detect a knock and retard timing.

I had to swap my knock sensor. my old 305 was giving me huge knock counts so i switched over to 350 sensor now i just get a little knock.
GTA383, my car is up and running now and is a torque monster. but I have a lot of tuning to go and im starting to wonder if some thing is wrong with my computer every once i a while it will just run way rich for no reason. I would say im just into high 13's right now but am looking for low 13's and into 12s on the bottle. untill my rearend and trans blow out anyway LOL.
