Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
I got an 86 iroc carb swapped originally TPI, new motor from summit (355). The original gauge cluster (besides odometer and speedometer) doesn’t work. No fuel reading, no tachometer, no volt reader, no engine temp. Is it possible to get these working again? Having at least a fuel reading would be good, but having all the original gauges working too would be better.
Easy to get the gauges working-just need to find why there is no power to the gauge cluster and once power is restored, see what works The cluster itself may need some repairs if readings are way off...

thanks for the response, does this mean that just the speedometer is mechanical and everything else is electrical? or is there some that are electrical and some mechanical? thanks for the help
Yep,just the speedo is mechanical-rest is electric. Some of the dissimilar metals that make up the cicuitry of the instrument cluster and fusebox of these cars do not play well together after several decades and some cleaning may be needed to restore good connections...The electric oil pressure sender on these cars is problematic, temp and volts are good when in proper working order, tach can be inaccurate but fixes are known around here.

thank you for your help, that seems like a project for another day lmao it needs a good few things done first before it is road ready, and the aftermarket gauges it’s got now will work for the time being. thanks man
