v-6 to v-8 engine swap
v-6 to v-8 engine swap
Hi there everyone. im just getting into the fun of third gens im looking to pick up a 3rd gen v-6 with a demolished v-6 (they are usually cheaper then a running car) and well i have a 4-blot main chevy v-8 that i rescued from a derilic boat, im pretty sure its either a 350 or a 305 I also know it has a reverse turning crank so a rebuild is definitly in the picture but i do not know if there will be any problems putting that engine in a previously v-6 equiped car, ohh yeah the cars im looking to pick up is an automatic so im guess that it will most likely come with a 700r4 tranny

Welcome.
Now, for a lesson in reality - don't do it.
Look through the posts on this topic and you'll see that the wise course is to get a factory V8 car. Yes, V6 cars are cheaper, but by the time you get all the things you need to do the swap (which are best obtained by getting a factory V8 donor car), you've spent the difference and more.
This is nothing more than the voice of experience. Yes, many have done it, and yes, it's even part of the description of this forum. That doesn't mean it's the best way to get yourself a V8 3rd gen car.

Ok if u want to do a v6 to v8 swap it's going to cost a lot of money but if u got a nice car it will be worth it if not get a V8
the thing is that ull have to buy :
-Motor 350 (
)
-motor mounts
-tranny cuz the v6 tranny does not bolt on the V8
-radiator
-supension for v8 car (not required but better handling)
- hard work if u do it ur self
I dint do the sawp but got lots of info
the list goes on but i gave u the basic

I have to agree that it's best to use a V8 model. You'll be glad you did.

nothing worth having is easy.......the swap is work, but...some people like a little problem solving. I say hail to the guy that did his swap for 300.00
Did you buy used fluids and filters also. How about gaskets, used also? And isn't your time worth anything?
My experience with the V-6 to V-8 was fun challenging and expensive. I guess you can take all kinds of short-cuts.....but what do you end up with....a half_____ Car.
If you are going to build a car...build a car...It takes alot of research..this is a good place to start...don't rush the "project" That is what it will be. Build it how YOU want . It is your car..you will be driving it...and take the time to do it right. These cars are great, there are so many different combos, Everyone has an opinion......sort through them and use what you can. There are some great guys on this board and a whole lot of Free info....use it then pass it on

1984 camaro v6
Pull v6 and v6700r4 from car
Bought donor 1979 chevy van $250
Pulled 350v8 and 350turbo trans from van
Rebuilt 350 .040 over .750 Holley.Edelbrock intake
crane cam,202 heads,Hooker headers
TCI streetfighter trans,2000 stall TCI converter
Change motormounts,Move brakelline at
crossmember,
Engine and trans installed.
Now I need a driveshaft,Radiator and shroud,
Hook up wiring,Trans lines ,power steering
pump or swap manual box from 86 up
S-10.Everything else yo hook up.Then I will need a
new rear end Ford 9 Inch or chev 12 bolt.
So I will have just about rebuilt the whole car.

Well, I'm doing it and it's really not costing me all that much money, but It's time consuming and a pain in the A$$. I WILL succeed though--I am comitted to finishing what I started...fortunately, I am not in a hurry. If you are in a hurry, then by all means DON'T do it. I know "five7 Kid", he's been to my house a couple times...he definitely knows what he's talking about. It is so much easier to get a 3rd-gen with a factory V-8...
I have a parts donor V-8 car also...
