305 to 350
305 to 350
hey guys, looking for info- 89 formula-ws6 package.i am swaping a 89 305 tbi to a 78 350.
It has 290 cam, 30 over flat top, etc. anyone ever done this? I am worried about the gauges, tach etc. Can i use the factory comp, tbi, etc. I am not to worried about the tbi, as i all ready have a carb to use on it, but am worried about other things working properly. I have heard that i have to change the chip for any upgrades but cant find any info about a chip for this size cam, have also heard that no chip will work. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks! I am not worried about the flywheel, exhaust, carb, etc, just mostly gauges, air, rad fans, air conditioning, etc-important stuff lol!

Welcome aboard.
The tach and gages are absolutely no problem. What heads are you going to use? '78 heads and '89 intake will have a problem on the center-two bolts on each side, but simple elongation of the bolt holes in the intake will solve that problem. Better yet, get aftermarket heads with '87-later bolt pattern, no problem with the intake and it'll run much better to boot ('78 heads were nothing to write home about).
Shouldn't be any problems mounting accessories.
The rest of your questions would best be answered over on the TBI board.
Good luck!

Hi, I am running lt head, not sure what year, they have 1.94 heads, which should be enough for the street lol. I am mostly just looking to build something to look good and sound good to goof off in lol, but I was worried about the tach working, as I heard that they don't make a chip that would work with this cam. If not, that means I have to use a carb, older distributor, which has a different hookup on the tach. I plan on using a fuel regulator and the original fuel pump with the carb so I hope the pump(factory) will work so i don't have to worry about the gauge. And i am not sure about the other gauges working even if i change all the sending units back to the original, without a computer. I am using a set of shorty headers, and plan on running a 2 inch exhaust out the rear.
I still have to find a flywheel that will work the the original trans-standard, and have to worry about going from a 2 piece rear main to a one piece rear main(flywheel) If i can't find a oil pan, i can fabricate that, no problem! But I was worried a little about the fans(radiator) working properly. Thanks again for the help
