305 to 350
i have an 86 z28 with the carb 305. i now want to put a 350 in which i have. if i put this motor in will i need some kind of computer mod to encorperate the new motor. or are there any performance chips anyone could recommend. remember it has a carb.
Check with the folks at Hypertech. They can make a custom chip for you. They can also tell you about your ECM. I did a 305 to 350 swap in my 88 GTA and all I needed was a custom chip ( $450). Car runs fine.
Yeah, it seemed a bit steep at the time, but as I stated, the car runs fine ( TPI). I dont have much experience with the carb setup, but I still recommend an e-mail to Hypertech to get their advice. You can also try Jet Peformance, they make custom chips. Another good source of info would be an e-mail to Summit. I agree that the carb setup should be less complicated/easier, but you probably will have to change the injectors and this may require a chip change ( injector pullse,etc.).

Simply going from 305 to 350 will not require a chip change. Getting either to run better might happen with a chip change, but that wasn't the question.
I've had a JCWhitney chip in mine almost since I got the car running originally when the LG4 was stock. I put the chip in before I fixed the fuel pump problem I had, so I don't really know if it made any difference. But, I also know I don't have any complaints about the way it runs now, and that cam is very aggressive for a CC car.
The magazine articles on this board include two by Steve Green called "Stroke in the Desert" or something like that. He put a 383 in an '83 'Bird w/LG4 system. He sent the carb & ECM to Jet, they sent it back rebuilt with a new PROM. Seemed happy with the results.
