383 carbed into a 89 iroc z????????
383 carbed into a 89 iroc z will it work?????
i was reading a recent issue of hotrod magazine, and they did a 383 where they started with a truck 383 and changed a couple of parts on it and made 467hp, and 500ftlbs. i am planning on building this same motor, but my question is can i just drop this motor into my 89 iroc z. i wouldnt mind leaving the motor carbed and not making it tpi, and when smog time comes just swapping my l98 back in. but is this possible. what all would i need to do to drop a carbed motor into my iroc? maybe later on down the line i will buy a tpi intake and runners, and convert the motor back to tpi. but is this swap easy?? thanks. i may sound confused in my typing, but it makes sense in my head

Possible? Sure, bunches of guys have done it. Talked about it often on the motor swap and carb boards.
Easy? That's in the eye of the beholder. There are certainly harder things, like an LT1 or LS1 swap.
Make sense? Only you can answer that. If you're considering TPI sometime in the future, that makes more sense to me than putting the L98 back in every couple of years. It will be expensive, and will require some non-off-the-shelf doing on your part (mostly the PROM), and few of the factory TPI parts will remain when you're done. But, it will be more of a streetable machine when you're done than a carb setup would be.
