Chevy dealer and swap
Chevy dealer and swap
Do u think that if i took a complete Ls1 engine and tranny to a chevy dealer with my car, they could do the swap for me? I would tell them that i would pay them liek 1000 to do it and i just figured that since they know alot about chevy engines and stuff that they could do the swap? thanks
I will have all the money for the swap by the begining of summer. If u find someone before then, let me know, other that that, i guess that i would have to go to this performance shop on high street in my area and i think that they would do it buy at a hefty cost, besides, if a chevy dealer would do it, they know more about those engines than the local performance shop does.

Keep dreaming, $1000 is no way enough to swap a LS1 and at
a Chevolet Dealer no less. Wish you luck and keep saving your money for all the extras this swap will require.:lala: :lala: :lala:

Umm, a Chevy dealer won't do it for you unless they're known for custom work. And even if they do decide to do, they probably won't finish and you'd end up paying close to 10,000 dollars at minimum. Trust me!
$1000 was just a starting price, i have 8 grand right now that i was going to use on the evo kit but now i want to put in a ls1 instead.I quess that i will have to just get the local performance shop to do it, he said that he will do it for 3 grand, o well, it will be done!

Whatever shop you get for the installation of the LS1 make sure
you get everything in writting, such as what parts are required,
fulids, hoses, and all the necessary items required for this swap.
Also get in writting that this will a turn key installation with a up and running engine and is streetable to drive. My opinion. I went through a crate 350 swap with no major problems, however; the cost kept going up when I kept adding extras. See profile, and
your 8K may go quickly.

Find a reason to hang out at your Chevy Dealers(tune up etc), GET TO KNOW THE MECHANICS. IF one seems like a nice guy, see if he wants to do some work on the side. I had a Sears mechanic put a new flywheel on my truck - at his house, after work, (couse I didn't wanta mess with it).
Your Chevy Dealer doesn't do the work - the mechanic does.

Car dealers employ a wide level of mechanics. I know I've worked for several GM dealers over the past 23 years. They range from just out of tech school to 30+ years of experience. A good portion of them wouldn't have the experience or desire to do the swap you are talking about. It would be a good idea to talk to some of them & see which ones have an interest in high performance cars & may own one themselves. These are the ones to do this kind of job. Some may be able to do the work on the side & save you some bucks.

I just brought my '89 IROC in to Day's Chevrolet here in Acworth on Monday for a few things, and one was to have a new engine installed. Everyone in the Shop was pretty psyched that I even brought the car in, but they really thought it was awsome that they got to do an Engine install. I asked if they would install crated engine, and they said they would. But I decided on the stock 305 TBI, so I could keep the car genuine as it originally shipped. They seemed pretty enthusiastic to help out. I should have it by tomorrow afternoon. Best way to find out is to ask. Good luck.

wow, 1stgenracer...not often i see people on the board from my area. i am near reading, a mere 1/2 hour or so from pottstown. good luck on finding someone to do the swap. most places dont wanna take responsibilty for their work ona complex project like that. i was considering doing an ls1, but then due to expenses, and having to fabricate parts for the swap myself, decided to either go with a modded LT1 or L98. when you get it done i would love to see the results....keep an eye out for a pair of decked out GTA's on high street this summer...a maroon one (mine) and a black one (fellow member). you will know them if you see em, feel free to stop and say hi!
