will the 327 fit??

I'm not asking for any detailed responses but here's the story. I bought my new IROC and I have the old camaro for sale. My friend wants to by the 1986 camaro 2.8 and drop in his dad's engine he has sitting around. He said it's a 327. I told my friend it will be alot of work to do it. I just wondering in general will this work?? what does my friend need to do this swap?? If nobody knows that fine b/c I'm not the one doing the swap. Thanks

it will work, but going from a 6 to a 8 is a bitch, better to get a ****ty 305 car or something and just swapping right there, then its a direct swap

he can do it. The tranny won't bolt up. If he has a stick he can get it to work with a differen't bellhousing but if its as '67 or older 327 I wouldn't want to sit next to a v6's t-5 with an engine that can hit 8000 RPM

sitting next to that combination could result in being disabled.

Yes, the 327 will go into the '86. Check this forum in the last month or so for the V6 to V8 swap details. Yes, it is a lot of work, but it can be done. If it is a '67-earlier version, with '67-earler version heads, accessories won't bolt to the front of the heads. But, the block isn't the issue.

Now, let's get this "327 = 8000 RPM" stuff into perspective. There are 350's out there wrapping to 8000 RPMs. There are 454's out there wrapping to 8000 RPMs. The majority of 327's built would not pull past 5000 RPMs. This guy's 327 most likely falls into that catagory, unless someone went to great pains to make it capable of wrapping to 8000 RPMs.

Get real, people.

stock it might not go 8000 RPM but the 67 and older have the forged steel cranks and can handle it. Put some fat heads on there with a new cam and its doing 8000 RPM no prob.

Problem. Unless a stout valve train is included. And stout rods. And forged pistons.

I maintain that 8000 RPM 327's are rare. I'd even wager there are more 8000 RPM 350's out there than there are 327's. Or ever have been, for that matter.

But, that's detail that wasn't requested. A 327 will do fine in an '86 3rd gen. Without any special concerns, unless that 8k killer is built.

Understood, but from previous conversations, it's obvious that your 327 is no factory engine. It was built "wicked", indeed.

There is quite a difference between 7000 and 8000 RPMs as well.

I hope that isnt the factory tach you're talking about...

Before my engine mods, my stock L03 with just MSD ignition could turn 5800-6000rpm according to the stock tach
