Starter

Is it possible to get starters rebuilt locally or is it very expensive. Shipping on starters is expensive from the States. Is there a place in the UK or Europe where starters can be bought at a reasonable price, reconditioned or otherwise.

You must have a place over there that will recon a starter motor.
To be fair, some places are not very good at it.
If your not sorted, i can post a few links for you in the UK.

I would definitely get an original one rebuilt, or even get 1 from a different car from a scrapyard, mines a chevy malibu or something i believe?! Its just that I had 1 car with a wing yip foreign special which split the nose because the ally on it was so thin and poorly made. You should be able to get 1 rebuilt, from a reputable place, As for realsteel, they are one of the best (for a UK based rip off merchant ) dealers of parts. I used to buy quite a lot from them before I started buying direct from the US. But granted the shipping on something like that would be steep. I think this should maybe start the way for a directory of UK based scrapyards?

BTW not teachin you too suck eggs, but dont forget the shimming deal on a starter, the realsteel catalogue has a good set of instructions on the whole thing .

A good point, you can often see those mini starters around, on ebay uk too. My mate put one on his Corvette, and it works a treat.
His was something to do with clearance, not failure of the starter, even though they seem pretty good either way

Got one too, agreed they're ace. After fitting headers to the car my old starter lasted about 100 miles before it was cooked and failed.

Wanted to create a debate to make the club better which would encourage folks to sign up and take part.

But it seems that most of them are happy with things as they are so I'll leave them to it.

Well a few of the reactions mystified me, if you cant point some things out and try and generate a few ideas its their loss, as a club.
It wasnt like it was a personal attack, a lot of the stuff you said made sense to me anyway.
