IROC Tyres in the UK

Hi guys,

Looking to replace the tyres on my IROC and wondered the best way of doing this? Would ideally like Cooper's but am willing to look at anything decent.

Should never skimp on tyres, probably one of the most important bits.

Thanks,
Felix

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

Get some proper tires, those coopers are all low budget junk tires. Name brands like GoodYear, Michelin and so on will have a proper perf. tire in 16". i always loved my Pirellis although they do wear out faster than a set of GoodYears.

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

Thanks for the response- man this board is dead these days

I have used Coopers before with great success, far better than the GoodYear Gatorbacks I had before. Will consider all options, interested to know what the Avons are like too. But this si my question, where do I buy from?

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

I use Kumho 712s. They are pretty decent for the price and give decent grip when broken in properly and up to temp. I find them crap when cold, but maybe that's just me. Last time I bought them they were about $81 (pounds). My gripe with going out and spending $200 on a tyre is that I could put a nail through the sidewall a day later and have to bin it.

Yes, it is a little slow on here these days...but then some of us are out of the country and are working on different timelines

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

Im using toyos and pirellis. Awesome tyres, I did have cooper cobras, but the ones i have now perform far better. I think the worst tyre I ever had was the general xp2000's, absolute rubbish. I got mine on ebay, brand new for less than half price.

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

I'm running Cooper Cobras at the moment and they seem quite good. I'm not used to having 255mm of rubber on the road though so anything would seem good I guess .

edit... Just found these on ebay, look like fun...

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

OK, really struggling here. Need to know where to buy and what.

So far all I can find in 245 50 x 16 is-

1) Hercules £66 + VAT each
2) Nankang EX5000 £48 + VAT each
3) Kumho £105 each fitted. (local)

Poor selection, our rims are obviously not popular anymore Any help?

Come on guys- enlighten me.

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

Kumho Ecsta is what I have on my 88. They are SO much better than the Marschall fronts and Hankook Ventus I had on the rear. I wore those out in no time and they suck in the wet. The 88 drives like a dream compared to the 87.

Hercules & Nankang are budget level junk tires. Do some reading up, possible a tire comparison test. Those kind of tires always end last with some even being downright dangerous. I had some el cheapos blow out on me once, very scary....never again. Think about it, that quarter sized patch is all the contact you have with the road.

I'll stick my neck out and say the Kumhos are the best you'll find. I was going to switch to them on my IROC-Z before I traded it. I had Nexen CP641s and I got two fitted for £140 via www.blackcircles.com. I found them pretty good but then I had nothing to compare them against, they were however utterly useless in the rain.

They are decent for the money and certainly the best out of what you listed.

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

Felix,

I also have the Kumho Ecsta 712s and recommend them. There are other brands and much sticker drag radials and road legal track day tyres if you fancy. The Kumhos should be much better than the others that were listed.

Re: IROC Tyres in the UK

Some links and stuff? Didn't you use to be the mod here? Do a search! LOL. Only joking buddy.

I've personally used BlackCircles http://www.blackcircles.com/order?_c...33&image2.y=10 on several occasions and have always been happy with both price and service. At present they are only listing Nexen CP641 in the correct size, at £47.73 each.

http://www.etyres.co.uk/ Don't list any appropriate tyres.

http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ts/search/SizeSearch.aspx Don't list any appropriate tyres.

http://www.nationwidetyres.co.uk/tyr...it_button.y=13 Say they have them in stock but you need to phone for price and brand details.

mytyres.co.uk Don't list any appropriate tyres.

Camskill http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...d=m12b0s2770p0 list TOYO R888 255/50R16 99W (GG/2G-MEDIUM) I know several people who have used this company and these tyres and they each SWEAR by them. They are a 'track day/road legal tyre'. A friend I know with them still drives hard including track days and gets 6000-7000 miles for the set. It depends on your useage and intention with the car. These will massively improve your dry weather grip and track/drag performance. These R888s are available in 245/50/16 also, but are not listed on the website. This company are a massive supplier of these so you could call them

Try demon tweeks. They have numerous tyre types available, incl lots of nice sticky ones.

http://www.tyretraders.com/SearchTyp...atio=50&Rim=16 list NEXEN 245/50R16 97V CP641 from £40.83 and NANKANG 245/50R16 97V EX500 from £48.88 in the correct size. They also list TOYO 255/50ZR16 99W R8882G for £165.20.

How's that for you Felix :-) Cheers, Gordon.
