V6 with a Flowmaster?

Does anyone have this set up? I have an 84 S/E with a H.O. V6 and it really needs a new muffler.

I know the Flowmaster sounds awsome on V8 cars (my bro has one on his 84 Sport Coupe 350 TPI). How would they sound on a V6? I don't want to sound like those euro cars. I want something with a throaty sound.

Do they make headers for the 2.8L V6 too? I would like to free up some HP with some exhaust mods.

Any suggestions or comments? Let me know.

this is for my 84 S/E resto project!

What the hell is an H.O V6? You're not going to get much of a rumble with a 6.

There were two V6's. A standard 2.8L and a 2.8L High Output. Different compression ratios. The vin breakdown or the RPO codes on my car denoted this.

I know I wont get a rumble like the v8s. but what does one sound like on a V6? I want to know if it will be worth my money to buy a Flowmaster or not.

I don't know how it'll sound on a car like ours, but alot of kids at my skool have flows(i think) on their S10's and Sonoma's(or whatever GMC is calling their S10 now...) and they aren't the sound of a V8, but they'll get your attention and they don't sound horrible either... just my opinion. If you have a cat, try it with no muffler. We tried my friend's '86 F150 300 I6 with no muffler and it KICKED @$$ for being a free mod. I'd just put hooker catback on it... but 3 inch exhaust might be overboard for such a small engine.....

this isn't a great comparison, buy my friend has a 2000 v6 with flowmaster 40 series... sounds damn good for a 6. when we cruise in it, you can watch people's eyes when we pass them. they go searching for badges... they think it's a Z at first.

go for it

2 1/2 inch exhaust with headers and a 80 series will definatly sound good. my buddy has 2 1/4 exhaust with a no name performance muffler on his 91 and he gets some people thinking it's a v8! so they can sound pretty throaty, but i suggest u use this set up!

So there are headers available for the V6? If so where can I purchase a set?

my friend didnt really do anything to his exhaust on his V6 bird and it didnt really sound too bad....im guessing if you get an 80 series flowmaster it would sound pretty mean for a 6.

Good to hear that you don't want to sound like a 5" coffee can!! But why spend the money on flow? Hooker or dyno's sound good and are probably cheaper. Just don't go glasspack, I know from a 4 banger it was loud, cheap, but was missing the 5" coffee can in the tailpipe to complete the picture!

I have a 3.4 v6 5 speed in my 89. I didnt even get a catback just a 80 series flow and it sounds pretty decent. Really good at idle low rpms and still decent at high rpms. sounds like an 8 sometimes. I did notice some performance. I cant wait to get a better y pipe and bigger i pipe. currently no headers are made to fit our sixes but u can find some that hedman used to make for it. every once in a while they pop up on ebay. The s10 headers and such with the 2.8 wont fit ours though. They'd dig into the ground.
hope I could help.
