Straight pipes

How come all I see is people bashing straight pipes with no cat??? are they THAT bad? im not trying to start a fight or anything, just wondering what is so bad about them. My friend had straights with no cat and it sounded mean as hell and i loved it.....why the bad comments?

Thanks

I'm not sure if straight pipes out the back sound like open headers at the y-pipe, but I do love that sound. Thing is, most cars on here aren't running that fast and if you sound like open headers that's kind of like a ***** all most, all sound and no go. That's the way I see it.

thats very true mark. IMO putting cut outs or running open pipes on a slow car or a stock 3rd gen (basically the same thing ) is domestic rice. all show no go. i had cut outs on my z28 but then i took them off because it made me look stupid because me car wasnt fast, it was just loud. and its not even a cool loud, just annoying. IT DOESNT SOUND GOOD, JUST LOUD. cars with lots of mods and hp sound cool with open exhaust becuase there is substance to the noise (if that makes sense) but do what you like.

Any car that will maintain an acceptable volume level with straight pipes isn't very powerful. HP = Noise remember. Plus I personally think cars with just pipes sound like speedboats going down the river (lots of that in my area) or 4X4s (lots of those too).

"HP = Noise remember" How many times have I heard that before? Anyways, I wouldnt advise it. Its cool for about 5 minutes but after that it gets old quick. Trust me...

just straight pipe it into a flowmaster, sounds very deep and like a race car when you get on it. i always get compliments on how it sounds and i have nothing serious done to it, yeah it may run 15.8 in the 1/4, but it looks good, sounds good, "domestic" rice or not, you'd be hard pressed in convincing people it isnt fast, and i like it like that

I run straight pipes out past the axle on my car, with no cats. It sounds very good IMO and others.

Nothing I hate worse than an old stock camaro with no exhaust system blasting down the street. Sounds so cheap and just gives thirdgen camaros a bad name. Who wants to annoy neighbors, get pulled over, and sound like a hillbilly in his old 1970 rustbucket truck? "dat der exhaust dun fell off Wilber, she sure do soun' good wifout it doe!"

Heck, I had straight pipes on my 85 305 stock. I had the stock exhaust routing but no cat or muffler and it sounded awsome. I got complements on how well it sounded. It had a nice low growl to it and idle sounded awsome.
