I don't see a 3" y-pipe helping if you don't have a 3" cat-back.

Go with the 3" custom. And like Mark said, it won't help if you don't have a 3" catback to go along with it.

With ur Hooker catback... and all hooker catbacks isnt it a 3" pipe. If its a 3" pipe do u have to have a 3" Y Pipe or can u go with 2 1/2" Y Pipe. What are the effects of a 2 1/2" and a 3" on a 3" Cat.

What size Y Pipe did u use mark.

Yes, all hooker cat-backs are 3".
As far as y-pipe, a 3" would definately help with a 3" catback. As far as what I'm using, honestly I don't think it's 3", it seems smaller than my I-pipe, and I don't think many TES headers come with 3" unfortunately. I bought headers when I had the 305.

Because it restricts back down to 2 1/2 you will lose a little power and also gets a little hotter but other than that its nothing to big! But you want the full exhaust! Its the best way to go and it will always be there unlike an engine you may want to swap!

Hey mark Will the Edelbrock 3" Y pipe fit with the hooker headers or not? IF so that would be a cheap route.

Ok

I am planning on getting hookers Catback which is 3" pipes. So for the hooker catback to perform its best I will need a 3" Y pipe right. Does anyone know if the hooker supercomp shorty headers come with a Y pipe. I am sure they do. But do they come with a 3" pipe or a 2 1/2" Pipe. I need a 3" pipe. Correct.

Thats what Im wondering too. Thats why I wonder if The edelbrock one is compatible with Hooker. I have yet to find a Hooker 3" y-pipe. You could probably make your own. However it would require welding and a pipe bender. Lots of work.

Call summit and ask which TES headers come with a 3" y-pipe, I thought one of them did, but I'm not sure which. I don't think Edelbrock sells just the y-pipe.

I was told by Summit a while back that you can get just the Y-pipe if need be but it has to be ordered from Edelbrock and takes a bit to come in.

Also, my TES has a 3" Y-pipe. I think if you order a TES for a L98 or LB9 car it will come with the 3" Y-pipe and if you go for a TES kit for a LG4 or L69 it won't (not that either one can't be made to work) - but don't qoute me on that. All I know is that the kit for my 87 L98 has a 3" Y and I have also seen the ones for various years of LB9s and they have 3" Ys as well.

Hooker doesn't make a cat back system for an 84 Z with HO!

That bites. What's the difference in the exhaust system in an LG4 and an L69?

Do they have one that will work?

I'm thinking that I'm going with dual exhaust...but I'm still weighting my options.

You can just get the cheapest Hooker catback (83-85 305 HO, $199), the only difference with it is that it doesn't have a flange for the cat on it. This isn't a big deal though, all you'll have to do is weld it to the cat (if you have one). As for the difference between the LG4 and L69 exhaust is that the L69 isn't quite as restrictive as the LG4, but it can definitely be improved upon.
