Prolly asked a million times but SLP exhaust ...

How difficult is it to install a cat back exhaust on an 87 5.7/350? I don't know if I want to do it myself or drive to Tom's River (SLP Factory) and have it installed.

Thanks in advance.

Jack the car up so the rear drops.

Is the old exhaust welded? Am I going to have to cut anything off? The SLP package says it's bolt on so I imagine it can't be all that difficult. I'm actually more woriied about how the old stock system is removed. I figured I'd jack it up or roll it up on the new ramps (fit under front skirts).

I appreciate all your help so far.

You'll want to jack up the back and so the rear drops down, a lot easier to get the pipe over the axle that way.

Mine was welded, about 30 seconds with a Sawz-all cured that in a jiffy.

No problem there. I've got a pretty nice sawzall! Problem now is Mark has me re-thinking my decision. Is it worth it to go with the SLP or save $150 and get the Hooker cat back system? You're killing me Mark.

Given that choice, I'd go Hooker. I know a couple of people with them and they're quite happy with the system. And yes, SLP does have a tendency to rape you on things.

I went with a Flowmaster 3" catback because the car had a Flowmaster muffler on it when I bought it and I liked the sound.

I think that he was saying that when he bought the car somebody had put a Flowmaster replacement muffler on the stock cat-back. He liked the way it sounded so when he replaced the stock cat-back, he went with a Flowmaster 3" cat-back (which comes with a Flowmaster muffler with a 3" inlet).

Exactly. When I bought it, the car still had the pathetic stock Y pipe, and all the welds were very poorly done. (We won't get into the 4" diameter exhaust tips on a 2.5" diameter outlet pipe...) So I replaced the whole thing, headers to tailpipes.

The hooker is great

Especially when your land lords accept the delivery and its about a 5'6" box thats 3' wide and 1' deep with the word "HOOKER" stretched across the front with a big red heart behind it.

Im sure my landlords think Im plenty weird after that one

I considered sticking a wig out the side of the box when i left it next to the dumpster

So I should probably explain to my wife, who happens to be 8 months pregnant, what is going to be delivered beforehand, huh?

Haha

It would be very wise...

They're especially moody around then and the box is slightly suggestive
