The collectors have maybe 1/2 inch of clearance around them. If you do try it, I'd make sure the tranny and distributor is off to have the most room to snake it around the frame. (Read: it'd be easier without the headers in.
)
) well the distributor has to come out for an engine removal/install so thats no problem...
Is your car a TA or Camaro?
I have a camaro, i wonder the the frame rails/steering column location would be any different between the two.
I was really looking forward to a 'drop the engine in with headers on' scenerio just like manifolds... Guess we'll see saturday

*points to sig* Camaro.
It might be entirely possible. I've never taken the engine out, so I don't have any personal experience, but it looks like the collectors might smack into the crossmember if you put it in with the engine tilted back so the tranny clears. But hey, if it works for you, let the rest of us know.

Well, the headers aren't the same, but I dropped my engine in with the TES headers on it. It took some twisting and turning to get it past that stupid A/C heater box, but other than that it went in alright. I suggest taking the wiper motor assembly off as that got in the way a bit too.

Heres the driver's side but dont mind my filthy engine compartment. I wish I had sprung for the coating but I was tapped and it was all I could do to get the headers at all....

Dropped the motor with the pass side on and the drivers side I had to have the engine tilted slightly up to clear with the steering shaft in.
