Which exhaust??? Help!!
I was looking on Thunderracing.com, and I noticed that the Random Technology Powermax exhaust system was only $329. I then looked above it and noticed that the Hooker cat-back was only $259. I am kind-of on a limited budget, and was looking for a new exhaust. Which of these do you guys think is better? Or can you suggest a better one other than these? I don't want it to be TOO loud, but I do want to be noticed and it has to have a throaty sound to it. FYI, I have a stock '88 T/A 305 TBI. Gound clearence is an issue as I live on a dirt road (I know, but what can I do about it?). I appreciate any and all coments. Thanks in advance, Matt S.
I think both sound really good, but I like the hooker better. A friend of mine has the random tech, it sounds real good but right at like 1500-2500 its really annoying. Its pretty loud especially at WOT. I'd recommend the hooker. Im sure Mark will be here soon to reply to back me up.

Hey thanks for the quick response. That's good to hear, the Hooker is cheaper too! Do you think I will have any ground clearence problems? Also, will the Hooker mount just like the stock does, or will I need some fabrication? Thanks
wow mark hasnt posted here yet about the hooker catback yet. oh well ill do it for him. you should spend the more and get the hooker catback from jegs. its sound nice and rumbles at idel and when u get on it it roars. i have it with a catco hi flow cat and it sounds very sweet. just cant wait to swap cams to really hear the change.

Thanks, is the Hooker cat-back from Jegs the same as from thunderracing? Also, how hard would it be to use different tips for the Hooker? I have no problem with the existing dual two tip ones, but I haven't decided on whether or not I want single tips on dual exhaust. Thanks,

I was also looking on other posts and saw something about Mac Performance exhaust. Is that worth the extra 100 or so dollars? Or is Hooker the way to go? I am looking for an easy bolt-on exhaust, that isn't TOO lound, but enough to be heard, and an exhaust that I won't have a problem with ground clearence. Thanks,

I'd suggest the Hooker for most of your milder engines. I've heard the Random on a car with a really wild cam, and it sounded pretty good, but it will probably sound really hollow and tinny on most motors.
The Hooker is a straight bolt-up, although mine was missing one of the tailpipe hangers. No big deal, it took 5 minutes to make one. The tips come packaged separately, so you can install your own if you want.
The Hooker will get you noticed. It has a real low, rolling sound at idle, like an offshore powerboat, and under hard throttle, it really roars, without that boomy sound that Flows make. The guys working the start at the last autocross were thuroughly impressed by it. They wanted to know what I was running because it sounded so good. (shh, it's a stock 305)

Does SLP make a direct bolt on? If so, how much is it? The Hooker is about $260 plus shipping. How does the SLP compare to this? Thanks, Matt S.

Hey I just noticed you're from Leander, 87 B4Z. I'm in Bastrop! Like the weather last night? Are you registered at Cardomain.com? Maybe I'll see you at some of the local car shows and stuff. Thanks,
i has slowmaster on my car and ran a best of 15.2 at RCR then switched to the SLP and ran a 14.9 at RCR. the SLP is cost more $ but is well worth it. here are some pics of my car, there is a pic of the SLP muffler on the last row.
it was funckin pooring here last night, we got a 1 1/2 of rain.

Wow! Yeah, I don't know how much rain we got, but it was plenty for now. Nice car too, 87 B4Z. Do you go out to RCR on a regular basis? I've never been, but I would like to go sometime. The thing that's really maing me lean toward Hooker, is the price and the fact that so many people back it here. If I had the $$, I would rather get SLP. But, has anyone tried MAC? I am trying to consider all possiblilties before deciding on one. Thanks in advance. Also, are any of you registered at Cardomain.com?

How did I miss this post. A sound clip of the Hooker is in my sign, shifting at 4k rpms. Here's a pic or 2 for ya.

If you get the $200 one, it has a square flange that connects to the cat, I just had it cut off and welded.
One for the tips.

Thanks, won't Hooker be less restrictive than my stock exhaust? The exhaust system on my car was replaced a few months ago by my father.
They replaced the old stock exhaust with a new 'stock' exhaust. Now it sounds, to me, like a carburated engine. Will the Hooker flow more? I know that may sound weird, but I want a good tone in an exhaust system. I'm just starting to mod my car. I only plan on getting, maybe an Edelbrock intake manifold, with the Holley Throttle body adapter, along with the Holley TBI unit. So my engine isn't going to be Very fast, but I do want to get the best for my $$. Would the Hooker flow enough for those simple mods? Thanks

If you have a stock replacement it will definately flow a lot better. When I went from stock exhaust with a flowmaster to the Hooker cat-back, I picked up 2 mph using a G-Tech.

Wow. That was a nice pic. I don't have the knowledge to weld anything, and my dad probably won't like the fact that the new exhaust will need to be welded. Is there anything I could do about that? I would like to keep the stock cat. Mostly becuase new ones are expensive! But is there a cat that would bolt up to the Hooker and the car without any modifications? Thanks so much.

You could order the Hooker that is specific for your year car, not sure which part number and will bolt right up, or you could buy a hi-flo cat with a rectangular flange to bolt up.

Hey thanks a lot!!! I REALLY appreciate it. Would you check out my other post and let me know what you think. I would greatly appreciate it!
I actually went with a True Dual exhaust from dynomax. It has 2 1/2 inch all the way back and sounds as good as the mufflers you decide to put on it. The kit runs somewhere around the 140 dollar martk with no mufflers. It exits on the driver side rear, and with some tips, doesnt look too bad. Might wanna check it out.
I also wanted to get the exhaust from random tech. Not sure how its going to sound.Does it sound annoying???If so can you give more detail as to why.I was really set on buying the random tech but I dont want to have a new exhaust that sounds like poo poo.My car is supercharged so I thought it would help my car flow even better.
