Where to get pipe from Manifold to Cat

I'm planning on buying the hookers cat back system for my 91 RS and a hi flow cat. I want them all to be 3 " pipes but the system doesn't include the pipe from the manifold to the cat. And I think its 2 1/2" stock. Does anyone know where I can buy just this pipe or maybe know a work around.....like a reducer or something?

BTW.... I don't have headers yet....but plan on getting them in future.

Thanx for all your help.

Welcome aboard.

If you're going to get headers in the future, the simplest and easiest solution right now would be to go ahead and get a 3" cat, and have the current y-pipe (what they call the pipe that goes from the manifold to the cat) modified to mount to the cat. The best way to do that would be to have an exhaust shop cut off the part after the two sides come together, and have them weld in a 3" piece to go to the cat.

I'd suggest that you get a cat and cat-back that are made to fit '86-'91 TPI single cat applications. Ignore what they call out for your car as it is, because those aren't the "good" pieces.

SLP makes a y-pipe that fits standard exhaust manifolds, but that's probably an expense that you don't want - because you'll need a new y-pipe when you install the headers. Plus, your manifolds aren't the ones they designed their y-pipe for.

The least over-all expensive route would be to get the headers and y-pipe now, when you're doing the entire system. Yes, it will cost more now, but you'll avoid the cost of modifying your existing y-pipe.

In that case, Is there anyone who sells an entire system, so I don't have to buy 4 or 5 different parts from separte companys?

Budgit is kinda tight right now the only reason I wan't to upgrade my exaust now is because my exaust pipe rusted through yesterday and my muffler fell off.

So I figure this is good as time as any right.

Headers and y-pipe should only be purchased from the same company. Hedman makes relatively inexpensive sets (~$200) if you don't have emissions inspection/testing. Otherwise, you're looking at around $350 from Hedman, Hooker, or Edelbrock.

Headers and y-pipe = 1 company.

Catco makes direct-fit, '86-'91 TPI single-cats that you can order from Summit.

Cat = 1 more company, total so far, 2.

Hooker, Dynomax, Edelbrock, make cat-back systems for the '86-'91 TPI single cat application.

Cat-back = 1 more company, total of 3. Unless the cat-back and headers are both Hooker, in that case two companies.

You can order all of this from Summit. So, that's only one company.

$350 for Hooker HOK-2055 headers, $117 for the Catco CAT-9118 direct-fit cat, $260 for Hooker HOK-16823 cat-back; plus their $6.75/order fee - ~$735. Getting the y-pipe modified will probably cost you $100-$200 (I'm sure it would be the higher number around here).

Oh, the cat-back is on back order from Summit right now. Might try Jegs.

You've been such a huge help.

But I'm going to see if I can pry your brain just a little bit more.

I see that there two places where the rear part of the exaust are held on......one is just a metal bar that is welded to the exaust pipe that slides into a bracket (I'm assuming that this is already welded to the pipe when I buy the cat - back system) The problem is the other fasiner is some kind of rubber hindge of some sorts and it is worn to hell, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to replace that as well. So my final question to you is:

Do you know where I can get that little rubber fasiner thingy?

Oh and if I were to go with a reducer instead of getting the headers now, where could I find that? (I know a guy that might be able to do the welding for me.)

Thanx again for your help.

I picked mine up from the dealer.

Any muffler shop should be able to expand a short piece of pipe to make an adapter. I needed my I-pipe expanded to allow a short piece to fit in the back side of my cat and the I-pipe (I didn't follow my own advice about the direct fit, regretted it), they charged me $10 for the extra pipe I needed and to expand mine.
